How to Brew Kombucha

Brewing kombucha is fairly simple, the hardest thing in my opinion is letting it ferment long enough.

Things You Will Need

  • 1 (preferably organic) Scoby
-scoby is also known as kombucha starter it is what ferments your tea
    I reccomend this

  • 1 (preferably organic) cup starter tea
-starter tea is a strong kombucha that is added at the beggining of
the brewing procces to balance pH

  • 2 tbsp (preferably organic)black tea of you choice
-no earl grey or teas with added oils

  • 1/2 cup per bottle of preffered fruitor fruit juice
-you can add multiple fruits, or even add
herbals such as mint and lemongrass

  • 1.5 cups of (preferably organic) white sugar

  • 1 gallon filtered or distilled water

  • 4 cups of ice cubes

  • 1 gallon wide mouth glass jar with thin cloth (not cheesecloth) and rubber band
-I reccomend these there is 2 jars included for expansion of your brewing adventures later on
there is also a cotton filter to place on top during brewing process included

  • 6-16oz brewing bottles
    -I reccomend these

  • funnel that fits into top of brewing bottles

  • Brewing Instructions

    8. cover jar with thin cloth and rubber brand
-do not screw on plastic lid, the scoby needs
      to breath while brewing

    9. allow fermentation for 7-8 days beore bottling

    Bottling Instructions

allowing kombucha to ferment in a sealed bottle creates carbonation
and is called the second ferment

    1. Wash bottles with mild soap and hot water

    2. add 1/2 cup fruit of choice and herbals to bottles
-it may help to rub herbals to release oils before adding them to the bottle

    3. pour kombucha into bottles using funnel
-leave 1- 1 1/2 inches of air the top of bottle

    4. allow fermentation to occur for 3+ days to corbonate your kombuch

    5. Enjoy!
